Texas Acute Dialysis Services

Home Services

Services

Dialysis services for inpatient facilities.

Intermittent hemodialysis for acute and chronic inpatients is our core service. We also provide continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) and peritoneal dialysis (PD), all backed by integrated biomedical and water system support, survey readiness, infection control and complete documentation.

Core service

Acute hemodialysis

Intermittent hemodialysis for hospitalized patients with acute kidney injury, fluid overload, electrolyte emergencies or toxic ingestions, performed at the bedside on the nephrologist’s orders.

Our dialysis RN brings the machine and portable water treatment to the patient, runs pre-treatment safety checks, delivers the treatment and monitors the patient throughout, working alongside your bedside nurse.

What’s included

  • Stat and scheduled treatments
  • ICU, step-down and medical-surgical units
  • Fluid removal (ultrafiltration) per physician orders
  • Pre-, intra- and post-treatment assessments
  • Continuous RN monitoring during treatment
  • Hand-off report to the bedside nurse
Core service

Chronic inpatient hemodialysis

When a patient on maintenance dialysis is admitted for any reason, their treatments can’t wait. We keep them on schedule while they’re in your facility.

We work with your case managers and the patient’s nephrologist so treatments fit the plan of care, including therapy schedules in long-term acute care hospitals and rehab facilities, and support a smooth return to the patient’s outpatient dialysis center.

What’s included

  • Maintenance treatments on the prescribed schedule
  • Scheduling around procedures and therapy
  • Vascular access assessment and care per orders
  • Coordination with case management at discharge
Specialty service

Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT)

Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) is slow, around-the-clock dialysis for critically ill patients who are too unstable for intermittent hemodialysis, such as patients in shock, with severe fluid overload or with multi-organ failure.

We work alongside your ICU physicians and nurses to start and support CRRT safely, on the orders of the nephrologist or intensivist, and keep the therapy running smoothly through the patient’s critical phase.

What’s included

  • CRRT for critically ill ICU patients per physician orders
  • Circuit setup and priming
  • Monitoring support and troubleshooting
  • ICU staff education and competency support
  • Coordination with nephrology and critical care
  • Documentation in your workflow
Specialty service

Therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE)

Therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE), also called plasmapheresis, removes a patient’s plasma and replaces it with a fluid such as albumin or donor plasma. It’s used for a range of neurologic, hematologic and renal conditions, always on a physician’s order.

Our team performs TPE at the bedside, with assessment before, during and after each procedure and clear communication with the ordering physician and your nursing staff.

What’s included

  • Bedside procedures on physician order
  • Pre-procedure assessment and vascular access review
  • Continuous monitoring during the procedure
  • Replacement fluids managed per orders
  • Documentation of volumes and replacement fluids
  • Communication with the ordering physician
Specialty service

Peritoneal dialysis (PD)

Patients who do peritoneal dialysis (PD) at home still need their therapy when they’re admitted. We provide inpatient PD so their treatment continues without interruption, whatever brought them to the hospital.

Depending on the nephrologist’s orders, that means manual exchanges or cycler therapy, careful catheter and exit-site care, and support for your nursing staff, with a smooth hand-back to the patient’s home program at discharge.

What’s included

  • Manual exchanges or cycler therapy per orders
  • Exit-site and catheter care per protocol
  • Fluid balance and effluent monitoring
  • Staff education on PD basics
  • Coordination with the patient’s home PD program
Core service

Isolation treatments

Patients on contact, droplet or airborne precautions, including COVID-positive patients, still need dialysis. Our nurses follow your facility’s isolation protocols and CDC guidance, with appropriate PPE and dedicated equipment where required.

What’s included

  • Hemodialysis in isolation rooms per facility protocol
  • PPE and equipment-disinfection procedures
  • Dedicated machines for hepatitis B–positive patients, per CDC guidance

Integrated Biomedical & Water System Support

Water quality is a patient-safety issue in dialysis, because every treatment exposes the patient’s blood to a large volume of dialysate. Texas Acute Dialysis Services (TADS) pairs clinical care with biomedical expertise and water system management, so the water and equipment behind every treatment have one accountable partner.

Treatment water is produced by reverse-osmosis (RO) systems with carbon filtration, checked for total chlorine before each treatment and tested to AAMI standards (ANSI/AAMI/ISO 23500 series). Dialysis machines and RO units are maintained on a preventive schedule that follows manufacturer instructions, and machines are disinfected between patients.

What’s included

  • Dialysis water system oversight
  • Preventive maintenance coordination
  • RO performance monitoring
  • Monthly water quality review
  • Culture and endotoxin compliance tracking
  • AAMI chemical testing coordination
  • Equipment reliability management
  • Regulatory survey preparation and support
  • Emergency technical response support

We use hemodialysis machines and reverse-osmosis systems designed for acute and inpatient dialysis, serviced and documented to manufacturer guidance.

Survey Readiness Commitment

TADS provides ongoing support to maintain regulatory readiness, including documentation review, equipment compliance, water quality oversight, and preparation for CMS/AAMI-related reviews.

Water testing logs, equipment maintenance records, RN competency files and treatment records are kept current and available to you for CMS, Joint Commission and Texas HHSC surveys, and for your QAPI program.

What’s included

  • Documentation review
  • Equipment compliance
  • Water quality oversight
  • Preparation for CMS/AAMI-related reviews
  • Water and maintenance logs ready for surveyors
  • Support for your QAPI program
Included in every program

Infection control

Dialysis patients face a higher risk of bloodstream and hepatitis infections. Our practices are built on CDC recommendations for infection prevention in hemodialysis, and we follow your facility’s infection prevention program.

What’s included

  • Hand hygiene and PPE at every treatment
  • Machine and surface disinfection between patients
  • Aseptic vascular access and catheter care
  • Hepatitis B surveillance per CDC guidance
  • Staff immunization and TB screening per facility policy
  • Participation in your infection-prevention reviews
Included in every program

Documentation & communication

Every treatment is fully documented: orders, assessments, vital signs, fluid removal, medications given per orders, and any events. That record goes into the patient’s chart however your facility prefers.

What’s included

  • Charting in your EMR or on facility-approved flowsheets
  • Hand-off report to the bedside nurse
  • Communication with the ordering nephrologist
  • Records available for QAPI and surveys
